I have had several people e-mail me, wanting me to suggest a good place to learn salsa in their area. Unfortunately, I only know about the places in my area. If you know of a good school or club in your area, please e-mail me about it and I will add it to the Local Information page.
Here are some ideas on ways to find a place to learn salsa in your area:
My suggestion of the best way to start if you're new to salsa is to find a group class. If there is a Latin club in your area, it will almost certainly offer a group class. Even if a club only has one night dedicated to Latin dance, they might offer a class at the
beginning of the evening, in order to get people interested, so check them out too.
Your other options are to take either private or group lessons through a dance studio.
If you are lucky, you live in a city where there are dance studios devoted solely to Latin dance. But if not, all is not lost. Look in the yellow pages under dance and call the studios that offer ballroom dancing - they will most likely teach salsa, along with the other Latin dances! Most ballroom studios also have practice parties and/or dances so you will get a chance to dance even if you're not ready to hit the clubs yet.
Finally, check out our links page - almost all of those sites offer videos on learning to dance salsa as well as lots of other information. If you have purchased any salsa videos that you really like, please tell me about them too and I will put that information on the site!
Good luck getting started!
